Season 2 - Greg visits

Greg Visits - Prairie SeaShell Sea Stories by Lynn & Don Campbell

On March 24th, Greg arrived, on schedule, took a taxi from the airport, picked up a key at the marina office, and came right down to the boat.

We walked out to the beach for a little sunburn, and stopped in at El Cid Marina to see Jeff & Janie on Adagio. After a little visit with them, they gave us a dingy ride back to PSS and we had a few cervezas and steak dinner on board and watched the sunset before we called it a day.

Day 2 - We went downtown to the market and the cathedral and I stopped in to see an optometrist to order some new glasses.

During one of our many beach landings back at Tenacatita, I was knocked down pulling the dingy ashore and lost my glasses in the surf.

I was fortunate that a bystander had his mask and snorkel at hand, and he was able to find them for me.

Didn't want to take a chance at something like that happening again, so thought I should have a spare pair of glasses.

Although I did have my prescription with me, the optometrist checked my eyes, showed me several styles of frames that would work for my progressive prescription, ordered my lenses, high index, anti glare etc, etc, and charged me about a third of what I would pay at home, and he could have them ready in a few days. Bonus!

Next we visited the cathedral, then walked out to the malecon and did a little window shopping.

Our next adventure was a trip to Stone Island ... the beach where the Mexican tourists and a few gringos like us, hang out.

We take a bus to the pier, then a panga shuttles us across to the beach.  Greg was doing his part, being the boat hand, helping everyone disembark.

After all his hard work, and after a swim in the breakers, we rewarded him with a few more cervezas. It was time for him to soak up a little sun and get rid of his pasty white color. He also enjoyed one of my favorites, mango on a stick...

Vineyard church

Day 4 found Greg & I at the Vineyard Church making sandwiches and delivering them to some of the most needy areas in the city.

There are many families who make their living collecting anything recyclable at the city dump. The church makes twice weekly runs to provide a healthy lunch to everyone living nearby.  Although the kids make sure they get their sandwich and orange, their favorite treat is cold, clean water, with ice cubes.

Greg made friends quickly, not only with the kids, but also with their pet iguana, who they would have sold to him for a few pesos.
