Had to take the bus into Guaymas to get a little elbow so I could move the oil pressure sensor out of the way so that the new, larger alternator would go in.

 

A  fellow at the local hardware store told me where to go so it was easy to find. Of course that took all morning so I was able to get the alternator in but I need to change the wiring to make it all work.

 

You can see the new alternator as well as the welded engine mount brackets but like I say I need to neaten up the wiring.

The row of boats on the left side are the ones in the workyard. The wall behind them is where the power and water came. Wall has been rebuilt but still no power.

 

[webmaster] This is a (4 year old) aerial view from before the tropical storm - © Google Earth. According to Don, the + sign, marking PSS location, is out by about 20 feet.

 

The row that the + sign on does not exist, they were small trailerable boats and were moved to a yard that is closer to the ocean, last year.

 

They had the most damage as the trailers had wheels and it was easy for the water to shove them around.

 

I don't know if some were washed out to sea but when I got there some were stuck on the median of the highway, blocking it.

 

The septic tank was going in as I was leaving the yard so I snaped some pictures.

 

[Webmaster - I asked Don about the bike we see in some pictures] The little folding bikes have been very handy as I am staying at a little motel about 3 miles from the yard. "Departamentos Adlai", according to your google map it would be on Avenida H and Calle XII. I have yet to see a street sign with names here. There are some in Guaymas.

 

 

 

I was wrong. There is a street sign. I had to take a picture of it. Notice the 'little shack' in the background. There are a few of them here.

 

This is like a ghost town, these 'little shacks' sit empty most of the year. Very few people live here.

When I first went to Adlai, they were not sure if they would have a room available for me. I wasn't quite sure why, maybe they did not want to rent rooms until they had full power and water.

 

However, when I went back a few hours later, Ramona was there and she found a room for me, but no air conditioning, there was a ceiling fan, a microwave and a little fridge, so I took it. I couldn't afford to stay at the only other operating hotel, they were charging half price, the first night I stayed there, because they had only partial power and water, and it was still $80.00 (and that's dollars, not pesos!!)

 

By the next day Ramona had found me an air conditioner, and I realized why she had been a little hesitant to rent me a room. All of the utility workers from neighbouring towns were staying at Adlai while they working in San Carlos, so consequently power was fully restored at Adlai right promptly.

 

I couldn't use the pool for the first few days, notice the red flag was up. Guess the water had to be tested to be sure it hadn't been contaminated before they had the go ahead to use it.

 

It turned out that I ended up staying at Adlai for over three weeks, and on the day I left, Ramona's husband cooked me up a great feast of fresh shrimp, which had just come into season, with rice and homemade salsa, all packed up to take with me back to the boat. Talk about customer service !!!
