Turkey is done, we said good bye to all, and returned to PSS. We left Calgary after a one hour delay for de-icing the plane etc.
Spent the afternoon in Phoenix with friends Jim & Judy, (M/V Great Escape) and they treated us to a delicious dinner. They dropped us off at the Tufesa Bus Depot in the evening. Took the executivo bus this time, well worth the extra money. Very comfy reclining seats, was able to sleep most of the way, except that the air conditioning was way too cold ... will bring a blanket for the next trip.
Arrived in Guaymas at 6:00 am, and went directly to Marina Seca. PSS was not in the yard yet, and they say it will be tomorrow afternoon before they have room.
Much busier than it was two weeks ago, many more people have returned to check on their boats. Back to Departmentos Adlai for a day or two.
Don says temperature has cooled down considerably compared to when he left here on October 2nd, but I'm certainly finding it very warm, and sticky. Humidity is much higher than normal.
Once PSS was back in the work yard, our first chore was to work on the stainless sleeves that did not get done last month. We brought the stainless tube with us, so didn't have to wait for Hernandez this time, however, couldn't borrow a drill from the yard. All their tools were damaged or lost in Jimena.
I was fortunate to run into Jan (a local gringo resident) who said she had a drill we could borrow and she would drop it off at Marina Seca office for us.
We hooked up the A/C, and while I did some unpacking, Don got busy drilling out the hole in the rudder for the sleeves. Unfortunately the project didn't last long, the drill burned out.
Went to the hardware store to see if we could buy a new one, unfortunately they didn't carry Black & Decker, only the very expensive DeWalt.
We did find one line that evening, Wal-Mart carries them only there is no Wal-Mart in Guaymas. Guess we'll just have to pay Jan to go to Wal-Mart to get a new one.
Anyway, while I was making supper that evening, Don was talking to one of the guys who was building the new fence. Don showed him the drill bit and he said he had a drill at his casa that would handle the large bit. He will bring it tomorrow - here's hoping!
Sure enough, the drill arrived the next morning and Don got the job done quickly. I went to do laundry, and Don met me for lunch at a new restaurant we have found.
Plazulita Azul, owned and operated by Majua and her husband, offer very reasonable breakfasts and lunches. She loves to travel, and we talked to her about taking the train across Canada. I think she has now decided on her next vacation.
Watching the sky for Hurricane Rick in San Carlos
We got the rudder back in place, and did a little touch up on the bottom paint, just at the water line. We are essentially ready to go back in the water, but now the weather forecasts say there is another Hurricane coming this way. Think we will wait a few days to see what Hurricane Rick decides to do.
We went to Tequillas one evening for a presentation by Robert & Virginia s/v Harmony on their recent trip to Ecuador. They are friends of Jim & Judy's and live close to their California home.
We've been watching the forecasts, and it looks like Hurricane Rick will make landfall around Mazatlan or Los Mochis, and it has be downgraded to a tropical storm. We had a little rain and a bit of thunder and lightning on the morning it hit Mazatlan, but it cleared up quickly. We'll book a splash for tomorrow and head for Guaymas.
I think the weather has started to change. The days are still hot but after the sun goes down it is quit comfortable.
